At first glance, working in the aviation sector looks romantic: travelling to foreign countries, meeting people from different cultural backgrounds and seeing the world. However, the job of an Aviation Service Agent is not only demanding, but also requires a good sense of responsibility.

A job in aviation means working in an international environment, where work is carried out 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Large volumes of products and hundreds and thousands of passengers are transported daily. At the airport, you work with strict safety regulations, but you are also expected to be familiar with the economic interests of the airline companies and other related companies.

As an Aviation Service Agent, you have a passion for travel, you are customer-oriented, capable of adapting to unexpected situations and you have a down-to-earth mentality. You are able to work irregular shifts.

Taking care of flight safety and safety at the airport are your priorities. Your task is to ensure that all procedures are adhered to and to take relevant action, where applicable.

What will the study be like?

International Aviation Services is a skill-based course that focuses on both theoretical and practical aspects of jobs in the aviation industry. Practical situations are thoughtfully translated into themes to which guest classes, lectures and skills training sessions are linked. This not only makes the course extremely varied and challenging, it also prepares students optimally for the job.

The course consists of cabin training (practical simulation in a mock-up at school) and Passenger Service Agents training (practical simulation at a check-in counter as well as a four-week traineeship in a number of handling companies at Schiphol International Airport). Furthermore conflict management training with actors is included.

You will take part in various projects and learn two foreign languages, including a short exchange program in cooperation with a junior college in Liverpool (United Kingdom) and learn three foreign languages.

• full service check-in
• dealing with passengers at the gate and during boarding as PSA
• dealing with passengers during boarding as flight attendant
• dealing with passengers requiring special attention both on the ground and on board
• security issues on the ground
• flight-safety procedures
• interaction and communication at work

Special requirements

To apply for this study, you'll have to meet all of the below mentioned entry requirements.

• havo/vwo-certificate or mbo-certificate at level 3 or 4
• work experience acquired elsewhere in a customer-orientated field
• good command of English (B1 level according to CEF)
• second European foreign language (German or French)
• good command of Dutch (B2)
• at least 19 years of age
• to be able to obtain a Schiphol-pass, a certificate of good character is required
• an interview or test will be part of the admission procedure

Special physical requirements:

• height (minimal): 162cm for ladies and 170cm for men (IATA requirements)
• good physical condition
• eyesight: max. +5, -5

What will it cost?

• tuition, established by the Ministry of Education
• educational resources (books, readers and other materials) appr. € 300,00
• workwear (uniform) appr. € 350,00 (ex. shoes)
